Neocis Expands Yomi S® Clearance to Include Pterygoid Implant Placement

Yomi S receives first and only U.S. FDA clearance for digital guided surgery for pterygoid implants

MIAMI, Oct. 29, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Neocis®, the global leader in robotic-assisted dental surgery announced that Yomi S and YomiPlan™ have received another first-and-only: FDA clearance through a 510(k) to specifically support pterygoid implant placement. This continues the indication expansion for the same robotic platform used in practices across the country.

Pterygoid implants are placed deep in the posterior arch at 17–45 degree angulations — among the most mechanically demanding positions in full arch dentistry. Placed in dense pterygoid bone, they can eliminate the need for a sinus lift, deliver the anteroposterior spread required for immediate loading and same-day provisionalization, and open full arch treatment to patients with significant maxillary resorption who would otherwise be poor candidates.

They are also among the procedures where precision matters most. At 15 to 24 millimeters in length and placed at steep posterior angles, pterygoid implants magnify any deviation from the planned trajectory — making robotic guidance a natural fit for the procedure.

"Pterygoid placement is one of the procedures where our customers have been asking for support — and now we can give it to them - all on the same Yomi S platform which they also use for singles, multiples, full arch cases, and bone reductions. This is what Yomi S was built to do: expand what's possible in robotic dentistry to better serve patients and clinicians."
— Alon Mozes, Co-Founder and CEO, Neocis

Neocis conducted a formal verification and validation program to confirm that Yomi S maintains its accuracy specifications for pterygoid procedures across all relevant parameters throughout the entire workflow. Human factors validation confirmed the procedure is safe and effective when performed by trained dental professionals with no additional robotic training beyond user manual review.

"Pterygoid implants are one of the most technically demanding placements in my practice — steep angulations, deep posterior anatomy, and very little room for error. Having robotic guidance formally validated for this procedure gives me the accuracy and confidence I need at exactly the position where other treatment types carry the most risk.”
— Michael Costa, DDS, Knoxville Smiles, Knoxville, TN

The pterygoid clearance adds to a growing list of indications supported by the Yomi S platform, which is already cleared for single-tooth, multiple-tooth, full arch, dual arch procedures, as well as guided alveoplasty. To date, more than 125,000 implants have been placed with Yomi robotic assistance.
